Cardiovascular and lung disease are two of the leading causes of death and disability in Australia. Currently one in five patients admitted to our hospitals receives care for a heart, lung or vascular condition, many of them managed on an ambulatory or community basis through highly specialised clinics and rehabilitation services.
St Vincent’s Darlinghurst Campus is internationally recognised for its heart, lung and vascular work which includes:
- Cardiology
- Cardiothoracic surgery
- Diagnostic and interventional cardiology
- Respiratory medicine and surgery (as well as sleep medicine)
- Vascular surgery and medicine (including a specialist vascular medicine laboratory)
- Lung and heart transplantation and the use of artificial hearts and left ventricular assist devices
- Cardiac rehabilitation services
We remain the only provider of heart and lung transplantation services in NSW, and a leading provider in the country.
